Jamaat-Shibir men torch vehicles at Dhaka’s Shahbagh

Leaders and activists of Jamaat-Shibir set fire to vehicles on the road in front of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) at Dhaka’s Shahbagh on Tuesday morning.
The incident took place at around 5:30am, when the leaders and activists staged a protest around the ambulance carrying the body of Jamaat-e-Islami leader and convicted war criminal Delawar Hossain Sayedee.
They demanded that Sayedee’s namaz-e-janaza be held in Dhaka. Police later fired tear gas and sound grenades to disperse them.
The Jamaat-Shibir men alleged that several members were injured during the incident.
The ambulance carrying Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee has left for Pirojpur.
Sayedee passed away on Monday night while undergoing treatment at BSMMU. He was 83.
He died at the hospital at 8:40pm.
