“Israel” raises speculations on Joe Biden’s motivations as his stance wavers and calls for an extended ceasefire prevail.
A recent report by Politico raised questions on the loyalty of Western governments to “Israel”, in particular Joe Biden’s administration, which has raised speculation among Israelis concerning the firmness of the US President’s stance.
Since Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on October 7, the world has witnessed a shift in attitude toward the war in Gaza, and while most Western governments reiterated “Israel’s right to defend itself,” many have also opted to advocate for a ceasefire after the horrific death toll witnessed in Gaza.
Biden was the first to jump the gun in defending “Israel” and give it the green light to execute whatever attacks it desired. Over and over again, he never failed to remind everyone whenever there was a chance that the US had “Israel’s” back.
Privately, the Biden administration advised Benjamin Netanyahu to postpone the invasion, hoping that the passage of time would lead to a reduction in “Israel’s” military plans. Amid a rising death toll in Gaza, Western allies, led by France’s Emmanuel Macron, called for a halt to hostilities, to extend the four-day truce and increase pressure on “Israel” to cease or significantly scale back its military operations.
Israelis skeptic on Biden’s reliability
Biden’s stance veered as his administration showed openness to establishing an extended truce, showcasing clear oscillations between supporting “Israel” unconditionally and capping its attacks on Gaza.
Consequently, according to the report, speculation in “Israel” about the Biden administration’s motivations, including potential electoral considerations influenced by progressive Democrats, Arab leaders, and Europeans, has been raised.
This comes amid skepticism among Israeli politicians about President Biden’s reliability, citing his history of inconsistency and tendency to switch positions. The sentiment in “Tel Aviv” is encapsulated in the saying, “Biden is your best friend until he isn’t.”
“Israel” continued to broach the consequences of a ceasefire and the fear of Hamas’ retaliation. It also highlighted Biden’s inability to live up to his words, saying he “talks grandiosely, but acts cautiously.”
